I’m Karin Lovisa Borgerson, a professional genealogist specializing in genetic genealogy and the founder of Borgerson Research. I use a combination of DNA data and historical records to help guide curious people on a journey of self-discovery where science meets story. I offer coaching, research, and analysis services to help clients discover unknown ancestors, solve family mysteries, and learn about where they fit into history.

My genealogical and genetic education include:

  • Fundamentals of Genetics and Genomics, University of Washington, 2020
  • Advanced Genetic Genealogy, Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh, 2018
  • Advanced Genealogical Methods, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, 2018
  • Practical Genetic Genealogy, Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh, 2017
  • Institute for Genetic Genealogy, 2016

My background also includes over three years working in the Division of Medical Genetics at the University of Washington managing the launch of the MS in Genetic Counseling, the first program in Washington train genetic counselors. I served as Director of Education for the Seattle Genealogical Society in 2017-2018. I give presentations regularly in the Seattle area and online on topics related to genetic genealogy.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in biology and anthropology from Oberlin College and early in my career I worked in biomedical research at the University of Michigan. I honed my ability to seek out and communicate complex information through graduate study in science, health, and environmental journalism at New York University. I also hold a Master of Business Administration in socially and environmentally sustainable business from Bainbridge Graduate Institute (now Presidio Graduate School).  Before launching Borgerson Research, I worked for nearly two decades in higher education, health care, software, and environmental non-profits.
